As the fighting game genre wages it's own fight to stay relevant in the ever-growing gaming populace, what better time to reminisce some of the best games to ever grace fighting gemedom. Here, Screw Attack presents their top 10 fighting games ever, in video form.
Where does your favorite fighter land on the list? Soul Calibur and Killer Instinct definitely would have topped our list, and leaving the original Power Stone out is blasphemy. To each their own...
In case you don't believe your eyes as gaze over these two screenshots, you are indeed seeing the legendary purveyor of the Dark Side, Darth Vader, and his Force-wielding nemesis, Yoda in an unusual location. That location is indeed...Soul Calibur IV™!
That's right, Namco Bandai has finally released new info on the rumored secret characters set to appear in their highly-anticipated fighter, Soul Calibur IV™, and 1UP has 'em first. According to Namco™ Bandai's™ press materials for the game, Vader will be in the PS3 version and Yoda will be in the Xbox 360 version. You know, because PlayStation is black and Sony is on the Dark Side. Check out the link for more details, lots of high res pics, and even a teaser trailer!
The race for the next President is under way! So if you hate politics as much as we do, DC Smackdown is your chance to beat the earmarks out of your choice of political types. It's a satirical fighting game in which players pit Presidential candidates and political pundits against one another in Street Fighter-style battles. Each character has a special move, from Hillary Clinton's "Intern Trample" to Bill O'Reilly's "No Spin Zone". The demo is free, but they want 5 bucks for the whole beltway.
The fighting game goodness doesn't stop there. GameNode has a slew of fighting games that you can play right in your web browser. Some of your favorite games flashed include Street Fighter™ Flash, The King of Fighters™ Dream Match, and of course several variations of stickmen fighting. While your there check out their assortment of arcade titles too.
This is it, the first time anyone has seen Street Fighter™ IV in motion presented by 1up.com. In a match between Ryu and Ken, you get a good sense of the 2D style and speed of gameplay, much different from most 3D fighters out there that move as if under water. You even get to see a few super moves; one video shows off a fireball and the other shows off a dragon punch. You can see a small hint of the ink effects, though Capcom™ promises to make it more prevalent in the final game. 2008 will be a great year for fighting games.
If you're one of the fans of the original Street Fighter™ The Movie, well you're welcome to fire up the old VHS and watch it again, both of you. But for the rest of us who would rather wear Rosie O'Donnell's panties on our head ...while she's still in them... Here is a Street Fighter movie actually worth watching. Street Fighter™ The Later Years is a parody of what the Street Fighter™ crew would look and act like when they got old (as if Capcom™ would ever allow that to happen!). It's conveniently broken up into several episodes more like a series, so you can watch it at your own pace. Many laughs ahead, but if you're still skeptical, check out the trailer above.
The season came and went so fast you could have blinked and missed it. And in case you missed it, the X-Arcade was in The Linux Magazine 2007 Holiday Shopping Guide. They make a good point right off saying "Let's face it, it's not really gaming unless you're pounding on the controller full-force, but those wimpy console controllers aren't up to the challenge." We couldn't agree more!
If didn't already know, yes the X-Arcade works with Linux too., and it's great with XMame for Linux. So if you got money over the holidays, we might have an idea where you could still get rid of it.
