AppleTV™ hacking is well under way, and while we're not sure exactly how to transform your video-playing box into an emulation station just yet, a Wiki over at AwkwardTV says that several popular emulators work on the AppleTV™ OS.
Fortunately, we don't have to take the editors of the Wiki's word for it, because there's also a link to a YouTube™ video which shows an AppleTV™ playing a NES emulator with an attached N64 controller. MAME™ emulation is also well under way, so hopefully it will be ready for prime time soon!
In 1977 the Atari 2600 launched and along with it much of what we know today as the videogame industry. How did we get where we are today? Next Generation investigates this.
They have surveyed gaming history and chosen one moment from each year that defines who and what we are today. From consoles to game genres, from lawsuits to graphics, these are the 30 big moments that define the videogame industry, from 1977 to the present day...
Rumble Fighter reminds me of one of the Dreamcast's best games, Power Stone. It's a non-traditional fighting game with open and interactive environments with dozens of maps to play on. It has customizable characters and you can play up to eight players ONLINE in an all-out brawl!
The purpose of this list is to aggregate a diverse collection of high quality independent games, and say a little about the significance of each one. As you will see, the themes and inspiration behind the games are really broad, as are the presentation and technical complexity. The hope is that both newcomers and those familiar with independent gaming will find something new and interesting to play or think about! This is in no way meant to be a "best of" list or any kind of indie gaming canon, although every game in this list is recommended highly.
The list was cut from a bigger list of over a hundred favorite independent titles from the TIGForums community.
Any gamer will tell you that nothing can compete with the Xbox 360's online network known as Xbox LIVE®. It allows gamers around the world to play and communicate with each other as a world all it's own. Now Microsoft® is extending LIVE® to the PC with Games for Windows™ – LIVE®. This new service brings together the most popular online console game service with the most popular games platform in the world.
Games For Windows™ Live has just gotten off the ground, but Xbox™ LIVE® Arcade, a key feature in the Xbox™ 360 feature set, is not yet part of the PC experience. But recently 1UP learned that Microsoft plans to rectify that next month as they will roll out a developer update for their Games For Windows Live tools in anticipation of Xbox™ LIVE® Arcade for Windows™ rolling out in holiday 07!
They did not, however, reveal what games will make the leap from Xbox™ 360 to PC. But if you don't want to pay a mint to use your X-Arcade on the Xbox™ 360, there is always a possibility you will be able to play the great Xbox™ LIVE® Arcade games with your X-Arcade™ on your PC by the end of the year. Cross your fingers!
We see X-Arcade™ controllers pop up in arcade projects all the time. But just when you thought you'd seen it all, you walk smack right into the Wallcade. That's right, your eyes do not deceive you, this guy built his arcade machine out of...well his wall.
Of course he used only the highest quality parts like the X-Arcade™ Tankstick, 2x4 studs, and wood paneling. More pics await at the link below.
"You call yourself a serious gamer - but what are you doing fumbling with keyboard controls and a mouse? You can’t call yourself a serious gamer until you get a nice game controller. If you want to let everyone know you’re really serious, then get a Tankstick." - Strong words! That even had us considering buying another one.
No doubt about it, MacMAME with a keyboard or flimsy gamepad just can't replace the feeling of a real arcade at home. If you plan to game on your Mac, "get a Tankstick"!
WorthPlaying, who's concept and goal is to give you the most important news, reviews, and headlines of the day for PC and console games, has given the X-Arcade dual controller their seal of approval in the form of an Editor's Choice award.
"When all is said and done, the X-Arcade controller is by far the best arcade controller I have ever used. X-Gaming did not make an arcade controller; they took an actual arcade unit and put it into a well-crafted box that fits nicely in your lap. This is how arcade games are meant to be played, and there is no better piece of hardware out there."
Just think what they would have said about the new Tankstick!
