X-Arcade™ Machine Support

General Troubleshooting:

MAME, GameTap, and Other PC/Mac Games Help:

The monitor says "Out of Range", how can I resolve this?

How to prevent "Out of Range" display errors when running MAME™ on a system using an arcade monitor: The problem stems from the fact that an arcade monitor (even the very spiffy WG D9200 and WG D9400) does not report its characteristics to the PC in the same way that a traditional PC monitor does, so Windows has no idea what the maximum supported refresh rate is and quite often accidently goes "over the line," especially in vector games (which often try to use a resolution higher than the monitor can support).

To fix this: If you're using Win2000 or XP download RefreshForce (for Win98, get the handy HZ Tool). Both of these programs allow you to add or delete resolutions from Windows, as well as force a maximum refresh rate for each supported resolution. Find out what the maximum workable resolution is for your monitor (the D9200 and D9400 can be run at 800x600x60hz), then run one of these programs and remove anything higher than that. Presto! Your "out of range" errors will be history.

Wells Gardner 9200 Monitor:

I have no sound, how can I fix this?

Follow these simple steps to resolve most audio issues:

  1. Make sure that the speakers have power, the power light on the speakers should be on. Make sure the speaker connection is also connected firmly to the back of the subwoofer.
  2. The speaker plug has a green headphone jack end, make sure this is connected firmly into the Audio In on the VGA box.
  3. Make sure that the game console's red and white RCA connectors are connected to the Audio In on the VGA box.

If you need further assistance after trying everything above, or have determined that you need a microswitch, click here to fill out an online case support request form to let us know.

How can I easily switch between different consoles/PCs?

The VGA Switchbox included in the cabinet has a "Source" or on/off switch that allows you to switch between the console inputs and PC VGA one.

If you want to connect several consoles and switch between them easily you will need 2 things:

  1. Video switchbox to switch the video between the different consoles. These are easy to locate in any electronics store/section.
  2. A serial switchbox to switch the X-Arcade™ between the different consoles and PC, and some extra serial cables for each console. NOTE: Always be sure one of the consoles or PC that you are switching between is off when switching.

How do I use my X-Arcade™ Machine with MAME™?

Also check out these great cabinet-friendly front-ends with X-Arcade™ support that can be operated by the X-Arcade™ soley:

MAMEWAH™ - MAMEWAH™ is an ArcadeOS inspired frontend for the DOS / Windows commandline M.A.M.E™ (NOT MAME32™) under Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. MAMEWAH™ hides the Windows environment which makes it ideal for use in a home arcade cabinet.

3D ARCADE - This is probably the most uniquely customizable frontend for MAME™. For example, you can choose what game you want to play in a 3D virtual arcade room!

AdvanceMAME - A port of the MAME™ and MESS emulators for Arcade Monitors and TVs but also for normal PC Monitor
